LIVERPOOL An interesting 19th Century Naval architects leather bound notebook, containing detailed precision drawings of designs and plans for ships fittings and fixtures, one double page plan entitled 'Fittings for 100 pd Armstrong shot to be fitted to H. M. Ship Warrior', another similar design for 40lb shot for H.M.S. Liverpool, amongst many detailed drawings are two estimates of weights for an iron clad vessel', which includes an estimate of 8 tonnes of bread for 4 months aboard ship, also a planned itinerary for a trip to Devon including Plymouth and Exeter, leather bound with war department stamp and '280' embossed to the front. (This is an invaluable and detailed insight into ship construction and fitting in the late 19th Century). * H.M.S. Warrior was the first iron hulled, armour plated warship built for the Royal Navy in 1861 and was at the time the largest, most technological ship of the the period. Rapid developments in marine technology meant she became obsolete within 10 years and she was withdrawn from active service in 1883. Used as a storage hulk and oil fuel hulk and undergoing many name changes over the years, she survived being scrapped. She was saved by the Maritime trust in 1979 to be restored as an historically important museum ship. She now berths at Portsmouth. H.M.S. Liverpool launched 1860, served in North America and West Indies Stations until 1867. As part of the Special Flying Squadron she circumnavigated the globe, declared obsolete in 1872, she was scrapped in 1875. £300-450 | Nil |
