Glynne - Fecit 1728', 64.6cm (25.5 inches) length. * Richard Glynne (1681 - 1755) was apprenticed on 6th April 1696 to Henry Wynne for 7 years, becoming a Freeman of the Clockmaker's Company on 29th September 1705, subsequently a steward in 1725. Working in Cheapside under the sign of Atlas and Hercules (1712 - 1716) and moving to Salisbury Court in Fleet Street (1718 - 1729). On obtaining his freedom in 1705, he married the daughter of noted map and globe sellers Phillip and Anne Lee working in association with their firm. At the same time he produced many 'good quality mathematical instruments either for hand or sea according to the newest improvements' as stated in an advertisement of 1726. The quality of his work was popular amongst fashionable clientele, enabling him to retire in 1730 at the age of 49. His stock sold at auction the same year. £1500-2000 | Nil |
